Our performance aims to manipulate the audience member’s subconscious by placing them in the box, taking away their sight and discovering if this can affect their version of reality and the relevance of this to the sublime…

Performance Structure:

  1. The audience member will be invited in and will be asked their full name.
  2. The headphones will be given to them and they will be instructed to make their way over to the box in the centre of the space.
  3. Safety information will be stated and they will be advised to knock on the side of the box three times if they feel unwell or want to leave the box during the performance.
  4. They will climb into the box facing the hole in the side and the padlocks will be secured.
  5. Music will be played to them. (Outside of the box we will be organising and prepearing all of the props for live sound effects.
  6. The script will begin and one person will remain on the sound deck to play any recorded sounds that we have on the iPod.
  7. The journey will go from a jungle to a beach, meadow and a party. There are also other possibilities of location suggested throughout.
  8. During the party scene pills (by that we mean multi-vitamins!) are dropped into the box and the heat of a hairdryer is blown through to simulate the temperature of a fire.
  9. Whilst the script is being read to the audience chalk will be employed to place out interpretation of the story on each side of the box. This also links to the concept that we all have different versions of reality based on our imagination and thoughts threaded right back into our subconscious.
  10. The participant is released from the box and guided by two performers in a circle to face the box again to see the ‘sight’ of their experience through our eyes. They can then leave the space.
