Once the audience member is inside the box they are entering a world of theatrical performance;

‘Theatre is something which engages both the eye and the ear. The two public senses are seeing and hearing..’ (Sandford, 1995, p.51).

While inside the box, the audience member is only able to use one of the two public senses, hearing. As they are taking part of the performance, we are making the locations and stories come to life by using chalk to draw fragments of the text on the outside of the box. Not only will this create a dysfunctional visual representation of the text, it will complete the sensory experience for the audience member when outside of the box. The noise of the chalk on the box will also compliment the effect of the text, it may sound like the rats  we mention in the text or the insects in the jungle.

Reckless Sleeper by Schrodinger was performed at the LPAC earlier in 2012. Reckless Sleeper became a huge inspiration when practicing our work with the chalk as they do the same throughout their live performance.

As you can see, the use of the chalk creates a visual experience for the audience, re-telling the dysfunctional story they had told before they started creating this sensory experience.
